What is Web-Host-Uploader?

Web-Host-Uploader (WHU) is a powerful tool to simplify uploading changes to your website. Just launch a WHU .upload task after modifying your website locally. WHU will upload only those files which have been modified. This way you never forget to upload a file -- simplifying website maintainance dramatically!

To use WHU, simply create a new file in your website's base folder. Give the file a .upload extension (which will associate it with WHU). Open the file and copy in the following text:

Then replace the domain, username and password with your FTP Login information and save the file. Henceforth, you can just double-click the .upload file whenever you wish to update your website! Each time you do this, WHU will upload any new or modified files.

What about that [Modifications] section?

Oh yes, as if this tool were not already useful enough, [modifications] provide a cool bonus. These options will automatically make cool improvements to your website during upload. Here are the cool modifications supported at present:

CloakEmails - If true, this will automatically cloak any email addresses in the uploaded pages so that they cannot so easily be harvested by SPAM-spiders. Never forget to cloak an email address again, WHU will do this automatically!!
CompressHTML - this will reduce the size of your web pages by about 30% by removing all extra whitespace, html comments, default attribute values and other unneeded stuff. Also makes your HTML very hard to read. ;)
LowercaseFilenames - this will make all filenames lowercase while uploading. It will also make change all local links to be lowercase. This is especially important if you are uploading to a Unix-style server (which are case sensitive.
AddImgSizeAttributes - this simply adds the width and height attributes to img tags (when they are missing) which helps your web page load correctly (it won't change sizes and shuffle around unprofessionally while pictures are loading.)
MakeLinksAbsolute - this will replace out all local relative path links with absolute versions. It will also remove the reference to index.htm//. This has two huge benefits -- first, it makes your pages much harder to steal since the page thief would have to modify all the links (most site thieves cannot do this). Second and more important, this provides a huge SEO boost by preventing dangling "ghost" sites which drain your PageRank. If you don't know what I'm talking about, that's ok, you just don't understand Google PageRank. ;)
